The Centre for Reformation and Renaissance Studies is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a conference in honour of Edward Muir, whose innovative work on Renaissance Venice helped to establish cultural anthropology and ritual as major analytical frameworks for the study of Early Modern European history. Building from Muir’s contribution to the field, the conference focuses on the methodological changes that have characterized the study of the Early Modern period over the last thirty years, and to reflect upon how these changes have affected our understanding of the period.
